USA Swimming has announced the American coaching staff that will lead the American squad in December’s Duel in the Pool in Atlanta, Georgia, where a group of elite American athletes will take on the European E-Stars in a head-to-head dual meet.

On the men’s side, SwimMAC Coach David Marsh will be the head coach. His elite men’s group includes Josh Schneider, Cullen Jones, Nick Thoman (a Duel vet who broke a World Record in 2009 in Manchester), and Eugene Godsoe.

His assistants with the men’s program will include University of Michigan head coach Mike Bottom and Ohio State’s Bill Wadley (strange bedfellows – the two schools are ultra-rivals) will be joining him on deck, as will Indiana head coach Ray Looze. This gives a strong Big Ten influence on the men’s squad.

The women’s squad will be lead by Georgia coach Jack Bauerle. Without official release of the rosters, it’s hard to say which of his charges will be on the squad, but there will surely be a few Bulldogs on the squad. His assistants will be Texas women’s coach Kim BrackinChris Davis of SwimAtlanta, and Lea Maurer of Stanford.

Full rosters of swimmers have not been released, but the first round of swimmers were notified on Friday of their invitation. They had until Saturday to RSVP, at which point it was presumed that a second round of invites went out. Expect swimmers to be coming out sooner rather than later.
