With no prelims in the women’s 4×200 free, as there were only eight nations entered, we skipped straight to finals. That means that each team will be fielding their strongest quartet, although the location of the gold medal will likely not be a surprise.
Australia field their strongest four swimmers, leading off with individual 200 free silver medalist and anchoring with world, Olympic, and Commonwealth champion Mollie O’Callaghan. Finalist Inez Miller swims third, with Hannah Casey on the second leg for a relay with no weaknesses here.
England lead off with national record holder Freya Colbert, and anchor with their other Freya (Anderson). Abbie Wood and Leah Schlosshan swim the middle legs, with both Freyas and Schlosshan making the individual 200 free final on day 2.
New Zealand put their national record holder on the leadoff as well, with Erika Fairweather then handing over to Caitlin Deans, Eve Thomas, and Milana Tapper. Canada put backstrokers Madison Kryger and Delia Lloyd, the latter of whom has a best of just 2:02.07, on the middle two legs, but bookend with a pair of 1:57 swimmers in Julie Brousseau and Ella Jansen.
South Africa leave African record holder Aimee Canny off their quartet, swimming Dune Coetzee, Georgia Nel, Hannah Robertson and Hannah Pearse. With Canny, who has been 1:56.59 this season, they may have been in with a shout of bronze, but they will struggle to be part of that conversation now.
Scotland have Megan Barnes, Lucy Hope, 17-year-old Evi Mackie, and Evelyn Davis, while Wales give Theodora Taylor a crack at her British age group record of 1:58.29 on the leadoff for them. Medi Harris, Harvard’s Alexandra Bastone, and Sophie Davies complete the quartet.
The Cayman Islands go with the same four as in the 4×100 freestyle relay, with Kyra Rabess, Harper Barrowman, Sierrah Broadbelt, and Riley Watson chasing the national record of 8:49.08 from the Junior Pan American Games last August
