Matt Temple Breaks Commonwealth Games Record With 50.63 in the 200 Fly

In the men’s 100 fly semifinal, Australian Matt Temple set a new Commonwealth Games record of 50.63 to earn the top seed in tomorrow’s event final.

Temple came in just two hundredths under Chad le Clos‘ 2018 Games record time of 50.65, and four hundredths ahead of canada’s Josh Liendo, who stopped the clock in 50.67.

Temple’s lifetime best in the event is 50.45 from June of 2021, but he has been 50.60 this season at the 2026 Australian Trials.

Former record holder, Le Clos, finished 8th in the semifinal, stopping the clock in 52.35 to squeak into tomorrow’s event final.

Tomorrow’s final will be a close race between Temple and Commonwealth record holder Liendo, and it will likely take another Commonwealth Games record to win.
