Born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2002, Terin grew up in and around the water; as the son of a former Paralympic swim coach, he was pushed around in a stroller up and down lane lines, and chlorine made its early impression on him. As time went on, he began his competitive career representing the Council Bluffs Swim Club in Council Bluffs, Iowa, which he would represent for 14 years.
After a long stint with his home club, Terin went on to swim at the Division I level at Youngstown State University in Ohio beginning in 2021, going on to represent the Penguins at four consecutive Horizon League Championships, serving as a two-year team captain, and serving on a variety of Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC), both on the institutional and conference-wide stages. During his time with the Penguins, he undertook a variety of sports broadcasting roles, including as a color commentator for four years, a camera operator, and a graphics operator. In December of 2024, Terin would graduate Summa Cum Laude with his degree in Telecommunications Sports Broadcasting from Youngstown State.
Terin has had the opportunity to work several major competitions up close and personal, working both the 2016 and 2021 US Olympic Trials in his hometown of Omaha as a basket carrier and awards presenter. Then in 2024, he landed the opportunity to work alongside Rowdy Gaines and Dan Hicks with NBC Sports in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium as a spotter and researcher, which led to a position working remotely as a researcher for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Currently, Terin still lives in the gritty city of Youngstown, working as a Senior Writer, and makes weekly appearances on the SwimSwam Breakdown.
