Born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2002, Terin grew up in and around the water; as the son of a former Paralympic swim coach, he was pushed around in a stroller up and down lane lines, and chlorine made its early impression on him. As time went on, he began his competitive career representing the Council Bluffs Swim Club in Council Bluffs, Iowa, which he would represent for 14 years. After a long stint with his home club, Terin went on to swim at the Division I level at Youngstown State University in Ohio beginning in 2021, going on to represent the Penguins at four consecutive Horizon League Championships, serving as a two-year team captain, and serving on a variety of Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC), both on the institutional and conference-wide stages. During his time with the Penguins, he undertook a variety of sports broadcasting roles, including as a color commentator for four years, a camera operator, and a graphics operator. In December of 2024, Terin would graduate Summa Cum Laude with his degree in Telecommunications Sports Broadcasting from Youngstown State.
