Ella Jansen is the biggest scratch of Day one at the 2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials, dropping out of the 200 fly where she was the second seed behind national record holder Summer McIntosh.
Jansen was the only other swimmer seeded under 2:10 with her entry time of 2:09.68, her lifetime best from this meet last year. She clocked 2:10.03 at the TNAQ June LC Invitational last month.
Mary-Sophie Harvey moves up to second spot in the event in Jansen’s absence. Jansen will be swimming at the Commonwealth Games this summer, having been selected to a 12-strong team back in October, and her absence here could be an indication of where her priorities lie this summer.
Madison Kryger, also selected to that Commonwealth team, is missing from the 200 free this morning, although she remains as the #4 seed in the 100 back. Sarah Fournier, the #12 seed, is another high-profile scratch from the 200 free.
Kayla Sanchez, who swam for Canada before switching allegiance to the Philippines in 2023, has scratched both the 200 free and 100 back today, where she was the #13 seed and #9 seed respectively.
Brady Johnson, who transferred from ASU to Missouri last summer and swam on the Tigers 9th-place 400 free relay at SECs, has scratched the 100 back. He was the 11th seed 56.52, but owns a lifetime best of 55.41 from 2024.
