Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
São Bernardo, Brazil, native Gabriel Machuco has announced his commitment to Auburn University as a member of the Tiger men’s 2026 recruiting class.
Machuco represented Brazil at the World Junior Championships last summer, where he qualified for the semifinals in the 100 free, finishing 16th in 49.87, though he was faster in the prelims, clocking 49.81. At that same meet, he finished 13th in the prelims in the 200 IM (2:02.38).
Just this past week, he competed in Rio at the Brazilian Junior Winter Championships, where he won the 100 free in a lifetime best of 49.59. He added another win in the 200 IM, touching in 1:59.98. Machuco swam two other lifetime bests, finishing 2nd in the 100 breast in 1:01.97, and 3rd in the 50 free (22.84). He competed at that meet alongside future Brazilian Auburn Commit Kauã Santos Carvalho.
In late May, at the Brazilian national Swimming Championships, he swam several other long-course career bests, including the 100 fly (52.62), 200 free (1:49.96), and the 200 IM (1:59.74).
Best Times Converted to SCY:
| Event | Time |
Converted to SCY
|
| 100 Free | 49.59 | 43.56 |
| 200 Free | 1:46.96 | 1:33.47 |
| 100 Fly | 52.62 | 46.14 |
| 100 Breast | 1:01.97 | 54.02 |
| 200 IM | 1:59.74 | 1:44.99 |
The Auburn men finished 5th at the 2026 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships last season.
Based on Machuco’s best converted times, he would have been projected to finish 9th in the 200 IM, 14th in the 200 free, and 16th in the 100 fly at those championships.
With converted times that project as big-time contributions to the Tigers’ hopes of moving up in the SEC, Machuco is yet to race in yards, which could see even quicker results.
Machuco’s skill set spans a variety of strokes, making him a useful piece to move around if Auburn needs him. Last season, Auburn scored 51 points in the 100 fly, 28 in the 200 free, and 19 in the 200 IM. If Machuco had swum those converted times at those championships, he would have added another 44 points to Auburn’s total.
When comparing Machuco’s conversations to last season’s Auburn roster, he would have ranked 2nd on the 200 IM, 3rd in the 200 free and 100 breast, 5th in the 100 fly, and 7th in the 100 free.
Machuco has a few months until he joins the Tigers, but with several top career swims under his belt in the last few meets, Machuco is priming himself for immediate impact within the SEC.
Machuco joins Kauã Santos Carvalho, Sebestyen Papp, Matthew Hamilton, and Mike Rice in the Auburn 2026 recruiting class.

He will be an amazing SEC scorer in the B or C finals.
Big talent coming in. Of course this guy has 5 competitive events, and they are all stuck into 2 days of the new ncaa lineup.
