Winter Juniors Qualifier Brecken Egeland To Compete For Arizona Starting Fall 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Winter Juniors qualifier Brecken Egeland has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on Instagram, writing:

I’m stoked to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona! Special thanks to my family and Coach Jim for making this all possible. Thank you to Coach Ben, Coach Pete, the team, and the staff in Tucson for giving me such an awesome opportunity!

A junior at Summit High School in Oregon, Egeland competed for the school’s swimming and diving team during his first two years. He currently trains year-round with Bend Swim Club, where he specializes in middle-distance freestyle and butterfly but is adept at all stroke disciplines.

Egeland enjoyed a breakout 2025-26 short course season; he dropped eight and a half seconds in the 500 free, nearly four seconds in the 200 IM, over three seconds in the 200 free, nearly three seconds in the 200 fly, and over a second in both the 100 free and 100 fly.

He competed at Winter Juniors – West for the first time in December, placing 14th in the 200 free (1:37.73) and 500 free (4:24.64), 27th in the 200 fly (1:48.62), 69th in the 100 fly (49.46), and 80th in the 100 free (45.82), all in then-best times.

Egeland most recently competed at the PN BC Premier Invitational in March, where he turned in the majority of his current lifetime bests. He touched second in the 200 free (1:36.75) and 500 free (4:24.36), fifth in the 200 fly (1:47.63 PB), eighth in the 200 IM (1:52.70 ), 15th in the 50 free (21.28 ), and 16th in the 100 fly (49.84).

On the high school scene, Egeland represented Summit at both the 2024 and 2025 iterations of the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) 5A State Championships. In 2024, he won the 100 fly title and contributed to relay finishes of first in the 400 free relay, second in the 200 free relay, and fifth in the 200 medley relay. This season, he helped the team win the 200 medley relay and finished runner-up in both the 100 and 200 free.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 Freestyle: 21.21
  • 100 Freestyle: 45.73
  • 200 Freestyle: 1:36.75
  • 500 Freestyle: 4:24.36
  • 100 Butterfly: 49.46
  • 200 Butterfly: 1:47.63
  • 200 IM: 1:50.64

A Division I program, Arizona competes in the Big 12 Conference, with the men’s team taking the runner-up spot at the conference championships in February. Based on the results from the meet, Egeland’s lifetime bests would have earned him a spot in the ‘B’ final of the 500 free and the ‘C’ finals of the 200 free and 200 fly, already putting him in scoring range with two full seasons to go before his first conference meet.

Egeland joins Charlie McCuiston, a breaststroke and IM specialist, as the only publicized commits in the Wildcats’ class of 2031 so far.
