The 2026 Campeonato Nacional Absoluto Open de Natacion wrapped up last night from Buenos Aires, Argentina, with 18-year-old Agostina Hein wrangling up additional victories to conclude her campaign.

Following up on her 200m IM new national record, Hein tried the 400m IM on for size, where she found success in a rapid result of 4:36.00.

That defeated the field by over 10 seconds, with 15-year-old Laila Chain next to the wall in 4:46.99, followed by Josefine Allport, who rounded out the podium in 5:07.52.

Hein’s lifetime best and Argentine national record remains at the 4:34.34 she put on the books en route to becoming the 2025 World Junior Championships gold medalist in the event.

The teen now ranks 11th in the world on the season.

Hein also raced in the 400m free at this competition, putting up a solid swim of 4:07.07 as the sole performer of the field under the 4:18 barrier.

Her performance was within striking distance of the newly minted Argentine standard of 4:06.25, which she notched just last month at the Argentine Junior Championships. That prior result ranked her 16th in the world at the moment.

Additional Notes

  • The women’s 100m fly saw Chain claim the victory, with the youngster clocking a time of 59.47, a new lifetime best.
  • Ulises Cazau was too quick to catch in the men’s 100m fly, registering a winning result of 52.74 for the gold. That defeated his peers by over two seconds, with Minervin Martin next to the wall in 54.96, followed by Sebastian Frei Rios‘ effort of 55.70.
  • Malena Santillan put the Argentine national record on notice in the women’s 200m back. She logged a time of 2:10.98, coming within .62 of her own standard of 2:10.36 produced in August of 2025. Cecilia Dieleke hit 2:11.30 as the silver medalist, with Allport well behind in 2:22.06, still enough, though, for the bronze medal.
  • 26-year-old Lucas Alba won the men’s 400m free in 3:52.97, coming within striking distance of the longstanding national record of 3:51.03, which Juan Pereyra notched at the 2011 World Championships.
