The 2026 U.S. Masters Spring Nationals are in full swing in Greensboro and day two of the meet saw the Masters Nationals debut of former Cal swimmer Reece Whitley along with 10 new meet records.
Whitley graduated from Cal in 2023 after a very successful career in swimming that saw him break 23 NAG records, and earn two World Junior silver medals. His NCAA career saw him qualify for the ‘A’ finals in both breaststroke events seven times across his four NCAA Championship meets.
On Friday, Whitley swam the men’s age 25-29 100 yard breaststroke, winning the event in 52.28. He was seven tenths off the Masters Record time of 51.51 set by Benjamin Cono in 2023.
Jenny Thompson made her debut on Friday as well, racing the 50 fly and the 100 free in the women’s 50-54 age group. Thompson swam 25.71 in the 50 fly and 53.37 in the 100 freestyle. She just missed her own 100 freestyle record of 52.00 from 2023 and was one hundredth off the 50 fly record of 25.70 set by Leslie Livingston in 2013.
While Thompson and Whitley did not set any records, there were a number of other records set on day two.

If only Reece went somewhere else for school. Generational talent
He is one of the kindest gentlemen you could ever hope to meet and the education he received at Cal will continue his success.
Still a generational bust 🤷🏽♂️
he makes more than you do.
I think he did ok at Cal
