After a 27.7 50 back outing last night, Katharine Berkoff decided to continue to get race reps in the sun this morning by swimming in the prelims of the 200 back… but didn’t quite make it to the finish line.
Berkoff, who didn’t want to swim the 200 back, decided with coach Braden Holloway to opt for a happy medium, swimming a very swift 1:33.0 (30-31-32 splits). This outing may give Berkoff a bit more incentive to give the 200 back a real go in the future.

When Regan Smith went 2:03.3 WR she was out in 1:31 to the feet and had a whole 50 left in the tank. I’m just saying 1:33 isn’t like other-worldly
Do we know the actual 150 time? 1:33.0 would be 31 high coming home off of 1:01.3–pretty good consistency. I would love to see what she could do if she went for it. 2:05?
Considering she was going for a 150, I doubt she is coming home in 31 high. Maybe 33-34 for a 207
Did she get out of the pool at the 150 or just really slow on the last 50?
Got out of the pool. I think this is a very fun and practical training tool, but now I’m also like “…but what would she have gone?!”
If she was doing a 200 she would not have been 1:33 at the 150. She might’ve been !:34 or 1:35, and probably finished at 2:06.5.
I don’t think that math maths
32.5-33.0 last 50, so that puts her around 2:05-2:06….that’s pretty good time for right now.
Regan must have been coasting herself…I’m surprised she was anywhere near 2:10.
