The primary function of the Assistant Swim Coach is to assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the program operations, including recruiting potential student-athletes, retaining current student-athletes, and coaching members of the Men’s and Women’s Swim Teams. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day coaching responsibilities and is expected to contribute to program goals as it relates to recruiting, retention, academic progress, and fundraising. The assistant coach will also assist the Head Coach on travel logistics, meet management, equipment management, swim lessons, and team activities, as appropriate.
In addition to assisting the head swim coach, the Assistant Swim Coach will also serve in a second college-assigned position as Housing Assistant. The employment in the above position is contingent upon the Assistant Swimming Coach being employed in both assigned positions.
Essential Responsibilities: The following list of responsibilities is meant to be representative of the work performed in as an assistant coach in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.
- Recruit, retain, and graduate successful student-athletes
- Assist in executing recruiting strategies to meet the recruitment and retention goals set by the College
- Collaborate with Head Coach on ensuring academic performance and personal development of student-athletes is in alignment with the goals of the student-athlete’s, program, and College
- Demonstrate high level of intercultural competence and the ability to work with diverse populations
- Conduct yourself with integrity, fostering positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, officials, and fellow staff, maintaining a high level of professionalism in working with others
- Assist the head coach with organizing and conducting practice sessions, including both in the water and out of the water, as well as in other team or departmental functions
- Attend regular athletic, admissions, and housing appointments and meetings
- Assume additional administrative responsibilities within Athletics Department, as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Housing Director
- Be familiar with and abide by the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic Association and Iowa Central Community College
- Work with the Compliance Director to ensure program integrity
- Represent the team and college in a professional manner through image, dress, communication, follow-through and response
Qualifications:
- Required: Associate degree or bachelor’s degree
- Required: Lifeguard certification (or ability to obtain)
- Strong communication skills working with colleagues, student-athletes, parents, administrators, and others
- Able to develop and maintain collaborative relationships, engage in creative problem-solving, and extend hospitality when working with others
- Valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain (or currently have) a Class C Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement
- Relevant coaching experience in swimming and/or collegiate student-athlete experience as a swimmer
- Recruiting experience at the collegiate level
- Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings
- Possess a results-oriented approach to coaching and working with student-athletes

Pay: $20,000 stipend as well as apartment-style housing and full board
