2026 Danish Open: Pedersen Nails New Record In 100 Backstroke

2026 DANISH OPEN

The 2026 Danish Open concluded last night in Copenhagen, but not before we saw our first national record bite the dust over the course of the four-day competition.

Racing in the final of the men’s 100m backstroke, 20-year-old Robert Falborg Pedersen produced a winning result of 53.99 to grab the gold.

Opening in 25.83 and closing in 28.16, Pedersen dipped under the 54-second barrier for the first time in his young career.

Entering this competition, the Gladsaxe Svømmeklub athlete held the Danish benchmark at the 54.26 he put on the books at the 2025 edition of this Danish Open.

Splits for that prior performance checked in at 26.05/28.21.

In last night’s race, Tobias Hesse was next to the wall in 56.64 for silver, while Anton Rytter Bech bagged the bronze in a time of 56.79.

Pedersen is already the Danish national record holder in the 50m back as well, courtesy of the 24.89 he first put on the books last year, then again just last month. He was the first Danish male swimmer ever to break the 25-second threshold in that event.
