Kristof Milak Hits PB, Beats Szebasztian Szabo In Men’s 50 Fly Final At Hungarian Championships

26-year-old world record holder and Olympic champion Kristof Milak took on a trio of dive-ins this evening on day three of the 2026 Hungarian National Championships.

After racing the morning heats of the 50m fly and 200m free, he brought his race total on the day to five, contesting the 50m fly semi-final and final and the 200m free semi-final.

After touching in 23.50 in the semi, Milak ripped a time of 23.03 to beat the field tonight when medals were at stake.

Milak stopped the clock in a new lifetime best, erasing his former PB of 23.27 from 3 years ago.

The pool included national record holder Szebasztian Szabo. 30-year-old Szabo settled for silver a hair behind in 23.14 as Richard Marton hit the wall in 23.67 for the bronze.

However, Marton wasn’t alone, as rising 17-year-old swimmer David Antal scorched a new lifetime best of 23.67 to tie Marton for 3rd place.

In doing so, Antal erased Milak’s Hungarian Age Record for 17-year-olds, a time which stood at 23.72 from 2017. Look for a follow-up post on this teen’s achievement.

In the 200m free semi-final, Milak fell to 9th place, posting 1:51.96, slower than his morning outing of 1:50.18. That still results in Milak appearing in tomorrow night’s final, however, as 10 swimmers make the cut.

Topping the semi-final pack was Christian Giefing who nabbed 1:47.98 with Oliver Papai and Attila Kovacs set to flank him for tomorrow night’s main event.

The former logged 1:48.59 to the latter’s 1:47.76.

Of note, Milak has been as swift as 1:45.74 in his career, a time he posted for 5th place at the 2021 European Championships.

Additional Notes

• Another age record bit the dust as Zsombor Petroczki notched a lifetime best of 1:01.01 to take the top slot in the semi-final of the men’s 100m breaststroke. That handily surpassed Olympic champion Daniel Gyurta‘s former standard of 1:01.70 from 2007. A separate post will be delivered regarding Petrioczki’s new PB.
• Irene Ciercoles put Spain on the board, courtesy of her victory in the women’s 50m fly. She stopped the clock at 26.66 to get the edge over Beatrix Tanko, who settled for silver just a tad behind in 26.73. Lora Fanni Komoroczy rounded out the podium in 26.96.
• Ciercoles doubled up with a victory in the women’s 100m back, producing an effort of 1:00.19. That’s a big new personal best, crushing her previous PB of 1:00.69 collected last February.
• The men’s 200m IM saw Gabor Zombori get it done for gold, putting up a time of 1:59.26 as the sole performer of the field to dip under the 2:00 barrier.
• Henrietta Fangli captured the top time of the women’s 100m breaststroke semi-finals, delivering a performance of 1:08.85 as the sole competitor under the 1:10 barrier.
• The men’s 100m back saw Adam Jaszo turn in a time of 53.79 as the gold medalist and sole swimmer in the 53-zone. Benedek Kovacs reached the all in 54.34, with a tie for bronze between Oliver Kos and Zsombor Racz, who touched simultaneously in 54.49 to share 3rd place honors.
