The records continued to fall on day three of the 2026 Australian Age Championships, where swimmers are not only vying for titles but also for the right to represent the nation at this year’s Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
Getting on the board in a big way was 16-year-old Leny Grigor, with the Somerset teen ripping a monster lifetime best and new Australian Age Record in the boys’ 400m IM.
Grigor crushed an outing of 4:16.15 to grab the gold in decisive fashion, producing the sole time of the field under the 4:22 threshold.
Behind him was Nudgee College’s Daniel Van Luik, who hit 4:22.85, followed by 800m freestyle winner here Lincoln Wearing, who touched in 4:24.72.
As for Grigor, his time tonight obliterated the longstanding Age Record of 4:20.48 that Olympic medalist and world champion Mitch Larkin put on the books 16 years ago.
Splits for Grigor’s head-turning performance are below:

Entering this competition, Grigor’s lifetime best in this 4IM event rested at the 4:20.73 he notched at the 2024 Queensland Championshps; therefore, his time here represents his first-ever time under the 4:20 barrier and he did so in spades.
Just like that, Grigor becomes Australia’s 14th-best performer in history in a result that would, for perspective, rank him as the 5th-fastest American 15-16-year-old boy of all time.

amazing progress – nice job!
