Noe Ponti Hits 50 Fly Season Best To Open Swiss LC Championships

2026 SWISS LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2026 Swiss Long Course Championships kicked off tonight from Uster with Olympic medallist Noe Ponti diving in for his bread-and-butter men’s 50m butterfly event.

24-year-old Ponti took his characteristic place on top of the domestic podium, hitting a solid time of 22.96 for the gold.

Chasing him were Robin Yeboah and Noah Ruben Retzler, who settled for the minor medals in the contest. The former logged 23.62 as the silver medalist and the latter bagged bronze in 24.46.

As for Ponti, his effort this evening checks in as a new season-best, slicing .01 off the 22.97 he previously put up at the China Swimming Open last month. The speedster remains ranked 3rd in the world at the moment.

The women’s edition of the 50m fly saw Gaia Rasmussen get to the wall first in a time of 26.68, the sole outing of the field to dip under the 27-second barrier.

That’s a new lifetime best for the Swiss swimmer, erasing her former PB of 27.20 notched last December.

Angelique Brugger secured runner-up honors in 27.27 and Malika Gobet also landed on the podium, producing 27.56 for the bronze.

Additional Notes

  • Timo Sorgius of Germany put up the 2nd-fastest time of his career en route to winning the men’s 200m free. He registered a mark of 1:47.07 to get the job done by over a second, cominig within striking distance of his lifetime best of 1:46.88 from May of last year. Balint Ashton was next to the wall in 1:48.27 followed closely by Mattia Mauri who settled for bronze in 1:48.38.
  • The men’s 1500m free saw Ilan Gagnebin earn gold, hitting a time of 15:30.75, a huge new personal best by about 17 seconds. He is moving closer to the Swiss national record of 15:26.20 Julio Bernardon put on the books nearly narly two years ago.
