For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Kian Olsson, a finalist at the 2025 Junior National Championships, has announced his commitment to swim for Brown University beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I’m so excited and honored to announce my commitment to the admissions process for Brown University!!! Thank you so much to Coach Kevin and Coach Matt for giving me this chance, and the unbelievably talented and kind Brown swim and dive team for convincing me this is the right school for me. I’m also incredibly grateful to my family for being there with me every step of the way, my incredible teachers, my super talented teammates especially @troyspeare who’s pushed me since day 1, and of course @coachportoswim. Go Bruno!”
A senior at Tech Valley High School in New York, Olsson currently trains year-round with Northern Dutchess Aquatic Club in Red Hook, where he primarily specializes in free and fly.
Olsson kicked off the 2025-2026 season with a strong showing at the Trick or Treat meet in Schenectady in October, logging three new personal best times. He prevailed in the 200 free (1:40.28 – PB), 500 free (4:42.29 – PB), 100 breast (57.15), 100 fly (48.22) and 200 fly (1:47.80 – PB) and took the runner-up spot in the 100 free (45.96).
A few weeks later, Olsson competed at the TRI Fall SCY Invitational and lowered his lifetime best in the 200 fly even further. He threw down a winning time of 1:45.19 in the event, knocking over two-and-a-half seconds off of his previous personal best, and placed 2nd in the 200 IM in 1:52.06.
At the 2025 Speedo Winter Junior Championship – East in December, Olsson posted a series of top performances. He earned a second swim in the 100 fly, placing 19th in a season-best time of 47.88. He also contested the 50 fly (21.02 – SB) and 200 fly (1:47.63).
Olsson competed at the 2025 Junior National Championships (LCM) over the summer, earning a second swim in one event. He placed 13th in the 50 fly (24.87), 35th in the 200 fly (2:04.00 – PB) and 64th in the 100 fly (56.08). He also contested the 50 breast (30.48 – PB).
Best Times SCY
- 100 fly – 47.67
- 200 fly – 1:45.19
- 100 free – 45.30
- 200 free – 1:39.82
A Division I program, Brown competes in the Ivy League. The men’s team placed 6th out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships before sending one athlete, Marton Nagy, to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championship, where he contested the 200 IM (1:43.94) and 400 IM (3:49.47).
Based on the results from the 2026 Ivy League Championships, Olsson would have landed in the ‘B’ final in the 200 fly and the ‘C’ final in the 100 fly and 200 free, putting him in a position to score some points for Brown right from the start.
Joining Olsson in Brown’s class of 2030 will be Abir Bhatia, Reed Harris, Avi Stahl, Myles Koff, Aaron Bell, Jack Ketchum and Noah Chen, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
