Day 1 Early Heats Heat Sheet

It was a quiet day for scratches, but that was to be expected as there is just one individual event on offer this morning. That said, there were two scratches in the 1650 free, with both Blair Stoneburg and Julie Brousseau not appearing in this morning’s heat sheet. Stoneburg, the #24 seed, was entered with a time of 16:10.75. The senior from Wisconsin was 10th at Big Tens, where she went 16:16.44. Stoneberg did not swim any individual races last year at NCAAs, but placed 22nd in the mile back in 2024, when she went 16:06.07. Stoneberg is listed on the psych sheet in two additional events: the 200 free (42nd seed) and the 500 free (22nd seed).

Also dropping the event was the 26th seed, Julie Brousseau. A sophomore from Florida, Brousseau, who represents Canada internationally, was entered with a time of 16:12.05. She was 16:35.12 at SECs, placing 19th, but entered the meet with her time from mid-season. Brousseau had the potential to unleash a strong swim from the early heat as the Gator placed 16th in the event last year, in a personal best time of 15:57.60. Brousseau is the 23rd seed in the 400 IM, an event in which she placed 13th last year, and she is the 8th seed in the 500 free.

The pair were both on their school’s 800 free relays at their respective conference championship, so the scratch may be strategic in nature, as Wisconsin and Florida are seeded 13th and 14th in the event, a position ripe for both being picked off and relegated out of the scoring, as well as advancing a few places to earn crucial more points.

Did the scratches keep someone else from getting an invite to swim?

When will they add points to the overall score since B finals are in the prelims but score points. Are B points added after the swim or in the evening after the A have swam. If it’s after the A final in the evening, parents are going to spend time in the afternoon manually trying to add B points for those top team, especially on Saturday!

I am not sure where to comment this, but do we know if there’s a live stream for the China open?

Ok that’s actually cool. Might be the only change I like, that and the mile first day.
