2026 Russian Swimming Cup: Chikunova Wins 200 Breaststroke on Day 2

The 2nd day of the 2026 Russian Swimming Cup wrapped up on Saturday morning, and some of the stars were in action.

The first event of the meet was the women’s 50 freestyle where Daria Klepikova swam 24.89, just five hundredths off the 24.84 mark she swam in July of 2023. Arina Surkova finished 2nd in 24.90.

The men’s 100 freestyle saw Egor Kornev earn the gold medal in 47.66, about a second ahead of Aleksandr Shchegolevs 48.64 in 2nd overall. Kornev and Shchegolev both added from their best times with Kornev coming in at 47.29 from the World Championships and Shchegolev adding from his 48.24 that he set in April of 2021.

Sofia Dyakova swam the top 400 freestyle time of 4:09.08, touching two seconds ahead of the field. She was in 2nd through the first 100 of the race behind 2nd place finisher Arina Pantina. Dyakova took over the lead at the 200 mark. Pantina finished 2nd in 4:11.37.

In the men’s 200 butterfly, Aleksandr Kudashev earned the gold medal in 1:56.90, a two-second add from his lifetime best of 1:54.56 from July of 2022. Egor Pavlov swam 1:58.07 to finish 2nd, adding two seconds from his best of 1:56.25 that he swam in April of 2023.

World record holder Evgenia Chikunova swam the top 200 breaststroke time of 2:21.48. This was about four seconds off her World Record time of 2:17.55 from 2023. She touched six seconds ahead of Yulia Efimova‘s 2:27.58 in 2nd overall. This is the 3rd fastest time in the world this year.

Mikhail Shcherbakov won the 200 IM in 1:57.12, a new personal best by a tenth over the 1:57.25 he swam at the World Junior Championships in August. Maxim Stupin finished 2nd in 1:59.69. This will move Shcherbakov up to 7th in the world this season.

Finally, the session wrapped up with the 1500 freestyle where Aleksandr Stepanov swam the top time of 15:04.92, nine seconds off his lifetime best of 14:55.04 from April of 2023. Andrey Filipets was 2nd in 15:08.75.
