There will be a pair of top-ten seeds missing in the women’s 200 free today, with #6 seed Barbara Seemanova and #9 seed Roos VanotterDijk scratching the event. Seemanova’s was expected, as she had announced on her Instagram that she was withdrawing from the championships on the advice of her medical team, while Vanotterdijk will focus on the 100 IM where she is the #3 seed.
Seemaonva placed 2nd in the 200 free in Otopeni two years ago, so there will be at least one new face on the podium here. The other two medalists, Freya Anderson and Freya Colbert, are the #1 and #3 seeds respectively. Seemanova last raced at the Slovakia Swimming Cup at the end of October, where she clocked her season best and entry time of 1:53.19.
Vanotterdijk was entered in a staggering nine events across the six days in Lublin, so it is no surprise to see her start scratching entries. She is the #2 seed into the women’s 50 fly final tonight after breaking the Belgian record in both heats and semi-finals yesterday, and will be a favorite in the 100 IM as well.
Finland’s #9 seed Laura Lahtinen will not be taking part in that event today, as she likely rests up ahead of the 100 and 200 fly where she has a good chance of a podium. Ellie McCartney scratches as well in preparation of the 100 breast final tonight, where she is the #8 seed.
