As the four possible host cities for the United States’ bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics have been announced, we will now have unique media-based opportunities to learn more about each of these unique locations and what they bid to bring to the table as host of the largest multiple sporting event in the world.

Boston is in competition alongside Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. to first be selected by the United States committee, in order to then be considered by the International Olympic Committee for the official site of the 2024 Olympic Games.

We recently saw Washington 2024’s video and now Boston 2024’s team has put forth a moving effort of their own. No promotional video for Boston would be complete without connecting with its deep roots in American colonial history, and we see this in the first scene within the video, complete with the garb and mode of transportation (read: horse) prolific in that time period.  The entire message of the video is conveyed as a relay of sorts, where a team of athletes across different disciplines (paralympic, equestrian, swimming, rowing, etc.) hand off the glowing blue Boston 2024 symbol, all while traversing different locales within the city.  The sense of unity across sports, across generations, across the city and beyond is present throughout the piece.

Using rowing as an anchor for the video is a nod to Boston’s culture as well. The city is a mecca for the sport thanks to Harvard University’s role in that sport’s history, complete with claiming host to the oldest collegiate athletic competition, the Harvard-Yale Regatta.  The men’s team has won every national championship – odd years only – from 1989 to 2003, while the women’s team won the national title in 2003.

The USOC committed to present a bid to the IOC at its meeting in California earlier this week, though they said they weren’t selecting a city until early next year.

LOL this is so bad. If it wasn’t for the swim swam headline I would have had no idea this was a promotional video for the olympics until the very end. DC’s video blows this one out of the water. It’ll be interesting to see what LA and San Francisco come up with
