2016 Youth Olympic Games Medal Design Revealed

The 2016 Youth Olympic Games are scheduled to take place between February 12th and February 21st in Lillehammer, Norway and now the event’s winning medal design has been officially announced. Out of over 300 unique entries from 65 countries around the globe, 20-year old Burzo Ciprian from Romania has had his “To the TOP” concept selected by a panel of judges as the official medal of the Games.

Described by the judges as “slick and modern, but not too complicated”, Ciprian’s piece includes elements representing the iconic podium, the Norwegian mountains and snow tracks, while also housing the emblem of the Lillehammer 2016 Games.

Sonali Prasad from India expressed his fondness of the concept as saying, “Burzo’s design was very unique and contemporary, keeping in mind the spirit of the Youth Olympic Games. We were looking for something different, something that represents all the elements of the Games; something that the young champions would be able to take back home not only as a sign of their victories, but also as a token that would symbolise the memories of their time at Lillehammer 2016. It gives me happiness to see a young 20-year-old capture all that and much more in his winning design”

The historic significance of his winning is not lost on Ciprian as he states “[winning] was a nice moment because I know that my design will remain in the history of Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games. I feel proud for what I have done.”
