2016-17 Liberty Swimming & Diving Schedule Released

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty’s first-ever trip to Colorado highlights the 2016-17 swimming & diving schedule, released today by seventh-year Head Coach Jake Shellenberger.

The Lady Flames, the 2016 CCSA runner-up, will compete in seven regular-season meets, in addition to the mid-season Frank Elm Invite in Piscataway, N.J.

With a brand-new Olympic-sized pool with separate diving well currently under construction, this is scheduled to be the last year for Liberty to compete in the LaHaye Aquatics Center.

For the first time in program history, the Lady Flames will contest an intrasquad meet, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m.

Liberty opens the season at CCSA foe Campbell for the third straight year, taking on the Camels in Buies Creek, N.C., Oct. 1.

Next, the Lady Flames make their first trip to Colorado, competing in the Intermountain Shootout, Oct. 7-8. The meet, hosted by Colorado Mesa, also includes Pac-12 team Utah, BYU and Air Force.

The Lady Flames finish October with a dual meet at 2016 CAA runner-up James Madison, Oct. 15. Liberty will look for its first win at JMU’s Savage Natatorium.

Liberty wraps up the fall portion of its schedule at the Frank Elm Invite for the second straight season, Nov. 18-20. The Lady Flames placed fifth in the Rutgers-hosted event last year.

The year 2017 begins with Liberty’s annual training trip in Fort Myers, Fla. This year’s trip will culminate with a dual meet hosted by two-time defending CCSA champion Florida Gulf Coast on Jan. 7.

The Lady Flames make their first trip to UNC Asheville’s Justice Center Pool for a conference meet against the Bulldogs, Jan. 14.

Liberty will host its lone home meet of the season, Jan. 20 at the LaHaye Aquatics Center, welcoming the visiting Campbell Camels. That meet will serve as the team’s annual senior night.

On Jan. 27-28, the squad will compete in the Davidson Duals to wrap up the regular-season schedule.

The 2017 CCSA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship will take place Feb. 15-18 at Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium. Liberty will seek its second conference title, and first since 2014.

One month following the CCSA Championships, the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship will be held at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind., March 15-18.
