16-Yr-Old Lincoln Wearing Caps Off QLD Championships With 2:04.79 200 Back

2025 QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

The final day of action at the 2025 Queensland Championships unfolded tonight with several age group performances highlighting the evening.

16-year-old Lincoln Wearing of Chandler was back in the water, taking on his age category’s 200m backstroke.

The versatile athlete touched in a time of 2:04.79 to become the decisive victor.

The next-closest competitor was Nudgee College swimmer Daniel Van Luik, who notched 2:06.25. Roan Shipsides rounded out the podium in 2:06.72.

Wearing split 28.99/32.42 (1:01.41)/32.51/30.87 to get the job done and produce the 3rd-fastest time of his young career. His PB remains at the 2:04.38 registered at last year’s edition of these championships.

The 15-year-old girls’ 200m IM saw Brisbane Grammar’s Eloise McLellan steal the spotlight, firing off a winning effort of 2:15.80.

McLellan was over 4 seconds ahead of the field in the sole final time under 2:20. Entering this competition, the teen’s fastest-ever performance checked in at the 2:18.08 she logged at April’s Australian Age Championships.

Madison McKenna hit 2:20.05 as the silver medalist, just a hair ahead of Dory Lee, who touched just .04 later in 2:20.09, good enough for bronze.

Additional Notes

  • North Carolina commit Olympia Pope produced a time of 32.57 to reap gold in the 17-year-old girls’ 50m breaststroke. That held off Keahne Bergin, who was next to the wall, followed by Keira Shimada Coscarella, who turned in 33.41 for bronze.
  • The women’s open 50m breaststroke saw Miami’s 21-year-old Matilda Smith get it done for gold in 31.90. Silver went to Sienna Harbin. Southport’s Sienna Walo nabbed 32.22 to also land on the podium.

With 2.15.80 in the 200 IM, Eloise McLellan improved her 2.16.23 swum a few days ago in the Open Category (but she remains #6 in the all-time 15 year-old Australian ranking).
