Day four of the 2025 Russian Short Course Nationals brought us a monster swim at the hands of Kliment Kolesnikov. He held off on-fire Egor Kornev to stop the clock at 22.43 to turn in the 4th-best performance in history.
However, another high-caliber swim came out of last night’s finals session, with 16-year-old Ksenia Misharina ripping a new European Junior Record en route to topping the women’s 1500m freestyle podium.
Misharina stopped the clock at a powerful 15:42.14 to get the job done, clearing her competitors by a hefty margin.
Anna Arshavskaia was next to the wall in 15:59.90 while Polina Kozyakina touched in 16:00.64 for 3rd place.
Misharina’s gold medal-worthy time of 15:42.14, however, hacked over 3 seconds off the former EJR of 15:45.29 that Turkish swimmer Merve Tuncel put on the books as just a 15-year-old in 2020.
Misharina was already knocking on the door of Tuncel’s record entering this competition. Last year she logged a big-time personal best of 15:45.72 to already come within half a second of the standard.
Splits for Misharina’s new EJR are below and Tuncel’s previous EJR are beneath them:
