15-Year-Old Grace Perry Drops Time in 100 Free and 200 Fly To Win Rare Double at Boise Sectionals

While most of the four Sectionals meets happening around the country this week opened up with distance swimmers on Thursday, in Boise, the meet hosted a full prelims/finals session including opening with the sprinters.

15-year-old Grace Perry was the breakthrough swimmer on the girls’ side on night 1. She won the 100 free in 49.84, which is a 1.36 second improvement on her previous best time from March 2025.

That time for Perry, a high school sophomore who trains with Falfins Swimming in Colorado, is her first Summer Junior Nationals cut. She becomes one of just 14 girls aged 15 to have gone sub-50 and hit a Summer Juniors cut in that event so far this season, ranking 11th nationally at her age.

For her encore, Perry came back and won the 200 fly later in the session in 2:01.00 by almost six seconds. That shaved .88 seconds off her best time and in total gives her a 4.41 second drop in this race this season.

She finished her triple by splitting 22.53 on the anchor leg of the Falfins’ 200 free relay. Combined with Myra Li, Evie Gray, and Bryn Baker, Falfins won in 1:35.74.

She was one of a number of swimmers on the girls’ side who snagged big new time standards. In the 200 breast final, 16-year-old Reagan Edquid from Arizona and 16-year-old local Sedona Stratton ran away from the field, touching in a Summer Junior National cuts of 2:14.37 and 2:15.01, respectively.

Edquid opened up a big lead in the first 100 yards, and Stratton made up a lot of gap especially in the last 50 (about eight-tenths on that lap alone).

While they were way out in front, 14-year-old Feyu Hong from Utah dropped 1.4 seconds to finish 3rd in the race in 2:26.57 and grab a Winter Juniors cut.

Brayleigh Hoisington from Sawtooth Aquatics, the same club as Stratton, won the 1000 free in 10:13.52. That’s an 11 second drop off her previous best time from January. This is a relatively-new event for her, with only two official swims on her record as she stretches up from her best events the 400 IM and 500 free.

The headliner of the boys’ side of the meet was Jake McCoy, who hails from Eastern Washington but just finished his freshman year at Tennessee. He won the boys’ 100 free in 44.68.

Other Day 1 Winners and Highlights:

• 15-year-old Jacob Furqueron from Spokane, Washington won the boys’ 200 fly in 1:49.49, a new best time. That beat out BYU undergrad Karson Spencer, who was 2nd in 1:51.93.
• Sohnnie Wesemann, a 22-year-old from Utah who didn’t swim in college but has continued to compete, won the boys’ 200 breast in 2:04.55. That just misses his best time of 2:04.40 from last March.
• The Avon Swim Club from Colorado won the boys’ 200 free relay by more than a second-and-a-half. That relay included Breck Boyd, Brian Molloy, Tennyson Sipes, and Tyson Boyd, combining for a 1:25.68. Other fast splits include Braydon Fong of the runner-up Boise Swim Club relay, who anchored in 20.14.
• Ari Teske from the Spokane Waves won the boys’ 1000 free going-away in 9:32.81. That’s a whopping 22+ second drop off his previous best time from two weeks ago – which was a split en route to a 1650 free, so he was due for a big drop.
