Aly Tetzloff, who ranked #11 on SwimSwam’s list of top recruits, has committed to the Auburn Tigers. She is the last member of the top 20 to announce her commitment.

Tetzloff is a versatile swimmer who could fill any leg of the Auburn medleys except maybe the breaststroke, and even there she’s not far off. In yards, her best times are:

  • 50 free – 22.69
  • 100 free – 50.02
  • 200 free – 1:48.42
  • 100 back – 53.59
  • 200 back – 1:59.78
  • 100 fly – 52.70
  • 200 IM – 2:00.01

Tetzloff will still have some work to do to be an individual NCAA scorer as a freshman, but she’s within the range of where those freshman scorers usually come from, especially in the 100 fly and the 100 backstroke.

More specifically for Auburn, she will fill big holes immediately. The program’s two top sprint butterfliers this year, Alex Merritt and Megan Fonteno, are a junior and a senior, and neither was ranked in the top 60 in the country in the 100 fly last year.

By comparison, Tetzloff would’ve ranked 38th in the country, which should give her a position on at least four Auburn relays as a freshman.

Tetzloff trains with the Crown Point Swim Club and Crown Point High School in northwest Indiana. She is the defending Indiana State Champion in the 100 fly, which was her best time of 52.70 and broke the Meet Record. Her 100 meter fly time of 1:00.95 not only qualifies her for the Olympic Trials, but it makes her the fastest 17-18 swimmer in the history of the state of Indiana in that event.

I think it is ridiculous that top recruits wait until the last minute to announce when they know weeks prior.. Seems like they want more attention to me! Still a big congrats!

A college commitment is a huge decision. These “late” commitments are not doing it for attention.
As a high school swimmer myself who has already committed, I know what a hard decision this is. There’s a lot more to it than just calling a coach up…money’s a factor, and academics come first, then swimming. It’s all about finding the right fit for you, whether you commit as early as July or decide later in April. In the end, YOU have to spend four years at that school, and deciding takes time; it’s not a rash decision.

Congrats to all seniors who have committed. Class of 2015 rocks!

The fastest 100m fly in the state of Indiana? I thought Carmel Swim Club was from Indiana.
