Fly/Breast Specialist John Om Makes Verbal Commitment to Penn State

John Om, a senior at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey, has made a verbal commitment to the Penn State University Nittany Lions for the 2015-16 season.

“Penn State has the perfect academics and athletics for me to be part of the Nittany Lions family!”

Om was the butterfly leg on Bergen Catholic’s record-setting 200 medley relay at the 2014 New Jersey High School State Meet of Champions. Individually he finished fifth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 100 breast. Om’s top short course times include:

50 free – 21.39
100 fly – 49.51
200 fly – 1:50.32
100 breast – 56.09
200 IM – 1:50.33

Om is a member of the Lakeland Hills YMCA swim team, with whom he had a successful 2014 National YMCA Short Course championship meet last April. Om finaled in all his individual events (100 breast 6th, 200 fly 7th, 200 IM 12th, and 100 fly 13th), and had some great relay swims as well. Notably, this included leadoff legs of 1:41.90/47.74/21.39 in LHY’s 800/400/200 free relays, and 22.54/48.96 fly splits in the 200/400 medley relays.

The Nittany Lions’ class of 2019 is starting to come together. In addition to that from Om, Penn State has received verbal commitments from:
