USA Swimming Releases Selection Criteria For Junior Pan Pacs

USA Swimming has announced their qualifying criteria for the upcoming Junior Pan Pacific Championships set to be held in Maui, Hawaii August 24th-27th.

The upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska will be the competition in which athletes can qualify for the team, with the Trials set to be held from June 26th-July 3rd.

Athletes eligible to qualify must be between the ages of 13-18 years as of December 31st, 2016 (or born between 1998-2003). The team will have a maximum of 20 men and 20 women. The qualifying criteria is as follows:

Priority 1. i. the first placing available swimmer in each event at the Olympic Trials.

ii. the second placing available swimmer in the 100 and 200 freestyle at the Olympic Trials.

Priority 2. the second placing available swimmer in each event except the 100 and 200 freestyle at the Olympic Trials.

Priority 3. the third placing available swimmer in each event at the Olympic Trials. The process continues (4th place, 5th place etc..) until there are 20 men and 20 women selected to the team.

Limitation. Swimmers finishing below the 6th place available swimmer who meet the above criteria will not be considered, except for the 100 and 200 freestyle events where up to and including the 8th place swimmer will be considered.

Decreasing Team Size:

If the prioritization procedures above result in more than 20 swimmers of each gender on the team then the swimmers will be ranked and selected based on the following procedure:

1. All swimmers from Priority #1 shall be selected to the team.
2. If selecting all persons from Priority #2 to the team would result in more than 20 swimmers per gender on the team, then the swimmers within priority #2 shall be invited to fill the team based on, and in order of, the highest World Ranking until a maximum of 20 swimmers are selected.
3. If all Priority #2 swimmers are named to thetTeam and the maximum team size of 20 swimmers per gender has not been attained, then the same procedure of using the highest world rankings will be used to rank the swimmers in Priority #3 until the team has been filled, or until the list of available swimmers from Priority #1 through Priority #3 has been exhausted.
