Detti tops Paltrinieri in tight 400 free race to highlight day 3 of Italian Nationals
After breaking the European record in the 800 free on day 1, 19-year-old Gabriele Detti continued his rise by taking the men’s 400 free after an intense showdown with Gregorio Paltrinieri.

The distance freestyle races saw big times on the first day of Italian Nationals. Federica Pellegrini (above) put up the second-fastest 400 free time in the world this year while Gabriele Detti broke a national record in the 800 and took over the world’s top ranking.
