TAC Titans Sprint Freestyler Carter Lange Commits To Tufts Class Of 2029

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tac Titans’ Carter Lange has announced his verbal commitment to Tufts University’s class of 2029. Lange is a Futures qualifier, from the Raleigh, North Carolina area, who specializes in the sprint freestyle events.

Lange provided SwimSwam with the following statement regarding his commitment:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Tufts University! I want to give a huge thanks to my family for supporting me! I also want to thank my TAC and YOTA families for pushing me along the way! Thank you to Coach Hoyt and Coach Norie for this incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to join such an amazing swim team. Go Jumbos!”

When not racing with his club team, Lange competes for his high school, Cardinal Gibbons. After placing 7th in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 free at the 2024 NCHSAA Championships, he elevated during his senior campaign in 2025—securing 3rd in the 50 free with a then-best time of 20.82, before charging to 6th in the 100 with a time of 46.24.

In the process, Lange also helped lead Cardinal Gibbons to its first-ever 4A State Championship, breaking school records in both the 50 free and the 200 freestyle relay. He anchored the relay in 20.47, the fastest split on his squad and the fourth-fastest overall in the field. The victory was especially meaningful, as North Carolina is transitioning from a 1A–4A system to a new 1A–8A format—making Gibbons’ title win the final 4A championship ever posted in state history.

About six weeks after the state championships, Lange closed out his short course season at the NC TAC Titans Tar Heel States meet, where he had the best meet of his career. He notched another lifetime best of 20.80 in the 50 free to take bronze, and earned runner-up in the 100 free with two personal bests: 45.71 in prelims and an even faster 45.45 in the championship final.

Since moving from YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team to the TAC Titans almost exactly a year ago, Lange has seen significant improvements, consistently getting under the 21- and 46-second barriers across multiple meets.

Best Times (SCY):

  • 50 Freestyle: 20.80
  • 100 Freestyle: 45.45
  • 100 Butterfly: 51.19

The Tufts men are coming off a 7th-place showing at the 2025 DIII NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, their best finish since 2018. Lange will need to drop time to contribute to the Jumbos’ national campaign, but he already projects as an asset at the conference level. The Tufts men were runners-up to Williams at last season’s NESCAC Championships.

Lange’s lifetime best in the 100 free would have earned him a spot in the NESCAC ‘A’ final, as it took 45.75 to qualify, and his best time of 45.45 would have placed him in the final. In the 50 free, he would have been just on the outside looking in—it took 20.71 to make the final, and his 20.80 would have situated him 11th after the morning heats. He is also nearly a three-event scoring threat, as it took 50.94 to make the top 24 in the 100 fly, which scores at the meet, and he has posted a time of 51.19 in that off-event.

Tufts had two ‘A’ finalists in each of those three events at the conference level, with senior Soeren Euvrard leading the charge this past season. Euvrard earned a pair of bronze medals in the sprint free events at the NESCAC Championships before going on to place 14th in the 50 free at the NCAA Championships.

For the 2024-25 season, Lange would have ranked 3rd on the depth chart in the 50 free with a lifetime best of 20.80. The team was led by Euvrard, who posted a time of 20.14 at the NCAA Division III Championship, followed by Will Kaminski‘s 20.54 In the 100 free, Lange would have sat 4th, behind Euvrard’s 44.93, Armaan Sikka’s 44.97, and Emmett Adams’ 45.11.

Lange’s ability to immediately contribute at the conference level is huge for the Jumbos as they graduate Eric Lundgrenthe men’s NESCAC co-high point award winner this year.

Lange joins Isaac Shang, Seth Graber, Adam Li, Luke Davis, Spencer Thompson, Frank Nguyen, Nicolas Ogawa, and JJ Arbuckle in Tufts’ 2025 recruiting class.
