The St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving team will wrap up its 2016-17 dual meet season this weekend, first traveling to Buffalo on Friday before returning home to face Niagara on Saturday for senior day.
The Bonnies took on Cornell at home in its last matchup, losing 180-118 despite winning in five events.
The Bona wins came from Alyssa Levac in the 100-breaststroke (1:06.19), Maria Rocchi in the 200-breaststroke (2:23.68), Michaela Ryan in the 1000-freestyle (10:50.32), Brittany Hart in 1-meter diving (241.58) and the 200-freestyle relay team (1:40.80), which concluded the meet. The relay consisted of Kathryn Godlewski, Bridget Jordan, Samantha Kuchinski and Rachel Taylor.
Buffalo’s last meet came on the road against Bowling Green, as the Bulls came out on top, 187-113. Hannah Miller paced Buffalo with wins in the 1000-freestyle (10:14.65), 200-freestyle (1:52.17) and the 500-freestyle (5:01.96). Julia Box also made an impact, winning the 200-butterfly (2:03.58), 100-butterfly (56.49) and led off the winning 200-medley relay (1:44.01). Abbey Croce won both the 1-meter (303.83) and 3-meter (340.20) diving events.
Niagara ended its home meets for the season with a 182.5-56.5 loss to New Hampshire. The Purple Eagles’ lone first-place finish came from Cara Mergner, who took first in 1-meter diving (219.75). They picked up a second-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay and saw Nastassja Posso swim her best 200-freestyle ever, finishing third at 2:00.78.
Friday’s meet against Buffalo will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday’s matchup against Niagara is set to begin at 1 p.m.
The Bonnies will honor their four seniors and captains prior to the start of Saturday’smeet.
Taylor Hodges
During her time at St. Bonaventure, the Nanuet, N.Y. native has competed in freestyle and backstroke events in the Atlantic 10 Championships, earning career-best times in the 50-free and 100-back at the 2014 A-10s. A biology major, Hodges is set to graduate with honors and has appeared on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll five times and the university dean’s list six times.
Bridget Jordan
A native of Odenton, Md., Jordan has competed in freestyle and butterfly events at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Last season at A-10s, Jordan was a member of the 400-freestyle relay team that scored with a time of 3:27.63. She has swam her best so far during her senior year, earning career-bests in the 50, 100 and 200-freestyle at Akron, and she was also part of a school-record breaking 400-medley relay team. A sport studies major, she’s made appearances on both the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the university dean’s list all seven semesters on campus so far.
Emily Quinn
The Springfield, Virginia native has swam in freestyle and butterfly events at Atlantic 10 Championships, earning a career-best time in the 100-free at the 2014 A-10s. Last season, she swam her best at A-10s, earning season-bests in the 50 and 100-free, as well as the 100-fly. This season, she set career-bests at Akron in the 50-free, and the 100 and 200 butterfly while also swimming on a school-record breaking 400-medley relay team. A strategic communication major, she’s made five appearances on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s honor roll and six appearances on the university dean’s list.
Maggie Woods
The Livermore, California native has predominately competed in the freestyle events for the Bonnies. This season, she’s been a crucial part of St. Bonaventure’s relay events, and earned a first-place finish at Binghamton in the 200-free with a time of 1:59.11. A sport studies major, she’s made an appearance on the university dean’s list.
