Hanz Palattao, 13, San Ramon Valley Aquatics (PC): Palattao registered six personal bests at the TYR Go Challenge (LCM) in late June in Fresno, highlighted by his swim in the 100 breast. The San Ramon Valley Aquatics swimmer knocked nearly two seconds off his personal best in 1:08.74, ranking him 1st among 13-year-old boys this season. Palattao also set PBs to rank 3rd in the nation this season in the 800 free (8:46.76) and 200 IM (2:15.81), 5th in the 200 breast (2:31.49), 6th in the 400 IM (4:50.46), and 7th in the 200 back (2:15.66).
Anastasia Shelokov, 11, A+Swimming Team (NT): Shelokov set personal bests in everything she raced at the North Texas LCM Age Group Championships in late June in Mansfield, including some highly-ranked times in the backstroke events. The A+ Swimming Team product put up times of 32.95 in the 50 back, 1:10.37 in the 100 back and 2:33.94 in the 200 back, ranking her 2nd, 1st and 5th this season among 11-year-old girls, respectively. Shelokov also set new bests in the 50 breast (38.53), 100 breast (1:24.38) and 200 breast (3:01.10).
Layten Norem, 12, Ames Cyclone Aquatics Club (IA): Norem set numerous best times at the Central Iowa Aquatics Beat the Heat meet two weeks ago in Des Moines, moving up the seasonal rankings in the boys’ 11-12 age group. The 12-year-old clocked 30.08 in the 50 back to rank 3rd in the age group this season, while he also cracked the top 10 in the 50 free, touching in 26.81 to break 27 seconds for the first time. He also recorded PBs in the 100 free (59.66), 100 back (1:07.69), 200 back (2:31.77), 50 breast (37.50) and 50 fly (28.83), with the 50 fly time also ranking him 10th in the nation this season.
Grace Pinto, 14, SwimAtlanta (GA): Pinto established six lifetime bests at the Bolles School Sharks June Classic (LCM) in Jacksonville, Florida, delivering some impressive freestyle swims. The 14-year-old SwimAtlanta member posted times to rank 5th this season in the girls’ 13-14 age group in the 1500 free (17:23.77), 6th in the 200 free (2:05.98), 7th in the 800 free (9:03.87) and 8th in the 400 free (4:25.81), notably earning Summer Juniors cuts in the 800 and 1500. She also set new bests in the 100 free (59.63) and 200 back (2:33.45).
Jackson Gardner, 11, Monroe Woodbury Devilfish Aquatics (MR): Gardner hit four new best times at the QNS Once More Chance LCM Invite in the Bronx, N.Y., last weekend, highlighted by his swim in the 400 IM. Racing the event for just the second time in long course, Gardner improved his time from 5:53.56 to 5:29.93, ranking him 3rd this season among 11-year-old boys. His previous PB was set less than two months prior in mid-May. He also set new bests in the 200 back (2:34.25), 400 free (4:48.48) and 200 fly (2:40.07), ranking him 5th, 8th and 11th among 11-year-old boys this season, respectively.
