Simon Cusack, Coach of Campbell and Sprenger, Named AIS Coach of the Year

Simon Cusack, the High Performance Coach of the Commercial Swimming Club has been named the Australian Institute of Sports’ Coach of the Year.

On Thursday evening at a ceremony in Canberra, Cusack was named the Coach of the Year from across Australian sport. Cusack is the coach of Christian SprengerCate CampbellBronte Campbell, and Tommaso D’Orsogna.

Campbell was the 2013 World Champion in the 100 free, which went with three silver medals at that meet. Sprenger was the Worlds gold medalist in the 100 breaststroke, and added a pair of silvers himself.

Both swimmers, along with Bronte Campbell and D’Orsogna, were also parts of World Record setting Short Course relays on this year’s World Cup circuit.

Cate Campbell and Australian Para swimmer Matt Cowdrey were also nominated for the AIS Athlete of the Year award, which was ultimately shared between cyclist Caroline Buchanan and rower Kim Crow.
