Shaylea Triller Stays In-State, Commits to Siena College (D1)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Shaylea Triller, a senior at Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, NY, has signed to swim for Siena College, located just outside of Albany, NY. She is a relative newcomer to the sport, joining her school team in eighth grade, and her club team, the Newburgh Sharks, in 2018.

Her success in her primary events stemmed from her high school season in the fall of 2019, where she posted lifetime bests in the 50, 100, and 200 free at the Section 9 Championships, breaking several barriers along the way. She dipped under 25, 54, and 2:00 for the first time, qualifying to state in the 100 free by earning second with a time of 53.49. She barely missed out on notching another state qualification in the 200, finishing third at a 1:58.5, just off her personal best from prelims that same day. Her 50 best came from Newburgh’s 200 free relay, where Triller led off with a 24.94, helping their relay finish 8th.

She was one of two state qualifiers for Newburgh, alongside Meghan Wurster, who qualified in the 500 free. Triller finished 33rd in prelims in the 100 free, just missing the C-final.

Her latest club meet for the Newburgh Sharks comes from late February of 2020, where she swam the 200 back and 200 IM, snagging lifetime bests in both events.

Siena College is a Division 1 mid-major school competing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference alongside Fairfield, Iona, and Marist, who were the top three women’s teams at the 2020 edition of the conference championships. Siena’s women’s team finished 8th out of 11 teams.

Siena’s head coach of 10 years, Paul Kueterman, resigned in April of 2020. He was replaced by Brogan Barr, a former assistant coach for D3 Hamilton College.

Triller would rank 1st in the 100, 2nd in the 50, and 5th in the 200 on Siena’s 19-20 roster.

She joins fellow in-state recruit Francesca Coppola and Maine sprinter Maddie Buck in the class of 2025.
