American swimmer Ryan Lochte has had a very hot-and-cold performance through 2 episodes of reality cooking show Worst Cooks in America, but has so far survived to the third round of competition.
The show, which airs Sundays on Food Network, pits notoriously bad cooks against each other and attempts to teach them how to be better cooks. Lochte is one of 10 contestants competing on the special celebrity 30th season of the show.
In episode 1, Lochte was nominated for elimination, being pitted against rapper Romeo Miller in the blind challenge. They each had 50 minutes to create a chicken skewer dish with a sauce, and then the judges decided who got to stay and who went home.
Lochte was stressed over the pressure of the moment, but ultimately prevailed presenting a chicken and bell pepper skewer with a sriracha mayo sauce. He received compliments for his sauce pairing, though judges critiqued his undercook on the bell peppers.
While Romeo’s skewers looked a little better, the judges ultimately chose Lochte’s dish as the better of the two.

In episode 2, Lochte bounced back in a big way. In the opening challenge, contestants on Lochte’s blue team had to prepare roasted turkey & bacon club sandwiches with giardiniera aioli, with a tomato bisque on the side.
Lochte received complements on his sandwich and on the texture of his soup, but thought a bit more salt and cream would help.
In the main dish challenge, contestants were assigned eggplant parmesan with handmade pasta. After receiving instructions and a demonstration from the lead chefs, they were given 60 minutes to execute the dish.
Judges gave Lochte rave reviews, saying that his eggplant was well seasoned and his pasta was well constructed. He was ultimately named the Blue team winner, which protected him from elimination.
Reality television star Lisa Barlow and reality television star Amara La Negra squared off in the elimination challenge, with La Negra coming away victorious and living to see another week.
Current Contestant Situation
There are currently 10 contestants still competing for the $50,000 first prize for charity, including Lochte.

Ryan Lochte going from elimination nominee to team winner in one episode is the most Ryan Lochte arc possible. Guy has nine lives. That said, eggplant parm with handmade pasta is no joke — respect for pulling that off under pressure. Curious to see if he can keep the momentum going in episode 3.

Oh cool, another show I have never heard of
I had never heard of it until the previous thread here. And now I don’t understand it. Why are the judges picking the dish they liked the best? I thought the idea was to prove you are the absolute most pathetic inedible worst.
Pulling for you Champ!
I’m curious if Lochte will receive money for this. Or maybe he just wants to have a fun time despite his struggles and challenges.
It’s all about the bag.
Of course it’s about the money! Are you that naive?
One of the many reasons swimming is failing is because swimming people act like getting paid to do work is a moral failing, but that everyone should be getting paid to not work just because they’re good swimmers.
It’s a very weird paradox.
I’ve looked and looked and there’s not really much info about what celebrities on these shows get paid. There’s some speculation, but not much firm. The $50,000 prize for charity is all that’s publicized, but I’m sure there must be an appearance fee of some kind.
Obviously none of these contestants are A-list celebrities but I’m sure they all have representation of some sort, which means any compensation was probably worked out on a case-by-case basis.
He received money of course
Room and board…meals too obviously
