Peyton Tesmer Headed to 43x Defending NJACC Champions, Indian River State College (2025)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Peyton Tesmer, a graduate from East Ridge High School in Clermont, Florida, will stay local and swim for Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, FL this fall. IRSC—a junior college, which is commonly referred to as a community college—mainly competes against other schools in Florida. Tesmer, who competes for the Southwest Stars Swim Club, is a multi-time FHSAA 4A Championship qualifier.

I am so beyond blessed to announce my verbal commitment to Indian River State College! I want to thank the coaches at IRSC for the opportunities they have given me. I would also like to thank my coaches, my family, and my friends for all the support throughout the years. I can’t wait for the next two years! Go Pioneers💙💛!!!

Most of Tesmer’s sprint best times come from the Florida High School State Championships; in 2024, her senior year, she placed 17th in both the 50 free (24.57) and 100 free (53.87). The former marked a new best while the latter was just a few tenths off the 53.68 that she set at the 2023 edition of the meet, where she placed 14th.

In the 200 and 500 free, Tesmer set her bests at the 2023 Florida Senior Championships, finishing 37th and 33rd, respectively. She also finished 32nd in the 400 IM (4:49.84), 55th in the 100 free (55.00), and 23rd in the 50 free (25.18) at that meet.

More recently, Tesmer hit 4 personal bests at the Florida PA Long Course Invite en route to recording 4 top 8 finishes. She hit a 28.23 in the 50 free for 5th, 34.63 in the 50 back for 7th, 30.28 in the 50 fly for 3rd, and 2:36.65 in the 200 IM for 3rd.

Best times (SCY):

  • 50 free – 24.57
  • 100 free – 53.68
  • 200 free – 1:58.32
  • 500 free – 5:18.96

Indian River State College’s women’s swim team is undeniably the most dominant program in the National Junior College Athletic Association—the pioneers won every single event at the 2025 NJCAA Championships en route to claiming their 43rd consecutive national championship and 47th championship overall.

This past year, the team was led by Amelia Brown, a rising sophomore who excels in the same disciplines as Tesmer; Brown’s best times of 23.08/50.17/1:49.96/5:05.56 led IRSC’s roster this past season and helped the pioneers to 6 of their 25 event wins.

Tesmer is a crucial pickup for the Pioneers as Brown recently announced that she will transfer to FIU next fall. Meanwhile, the NJCAA swimmer of the year, IRSC’s Aurora Zanin, a rising sophomore, will be heading to Nebraska to finish the remainder of her NCAA career.

With her best times, Tesmer would have finished 7th in the 50 free, 4th in the 100 free, 3rd in the 200 free, and 3rd in the 500 at this past season’s national championships. Her sprint freestyle prowess and relay value will help continue IRSC’s tradition of dominance as the loss of several of their top swimmers will hurt the Pioneers. IRSC only gets athletes for two years, and due to transfers and graduates, a handful of their best sprinters, such as Zanin and Nika Tomic, (23.92/50.99/1:50.93 across the 50/100/200 frees) will not be returning this fall.

Joining Tesmer in the fall include fellow Floridians Hannah Andrews (sprint free), Jackie Conroy (sprint free/back), Cora Falvey (breast/IM), Rebekah Foster (sprint free), and Paola Negrin (fly/IM). Negrin, who holds PBs of 57.48/2:05.29 in the butterflies, also would have easily scored in the A-finals at the 2025 NJCAA Championships, and will look to help alleviate the loss of Zanin—a fly/IM specialist.

To clarify a part of article in above, Amelia Brown committed to FIU but won’t go there until the fall of 2026. She will return to Indian River in a month and will finish her 2nd season (2025-2026) with us. We are very grateful for her return.
