USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Liam Campbell has announced his commitment to the University of Pennsylvania for this upcoming fall. Campbell is wrapping up his senior year at Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington.

Campbell trains year-round with Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club, which is based in the Seattle area. He’s versatile in the strokes he swims, but tends to stick with the shorter races. He recently raced at the Pro Swim Series stop in Westmont, where he set best times in the 50m free (23.70), 50m back (27.69), and 50m fly (25.45).
Prior to Westmont, Campbell had a strong meet at Sectionals in Federal Way. He picked up 3rd-place finishes in both the 100 free (44.32) and 100 back (48.85), both in personal best times. He also knocked nearly three seconds off his best in the 100 breast to clock a 58.00.
On the high school side of things, Campbell successfully defended his Washington High School State (4A) Championship title in the 100 free. He touched at 44.40, winning the event by over a second.

The Quakers finished 6th out of 8 teams at the 2023 Ivy League Championships. Campbell is a huge addition for Penn, as his current best times in the 50 and 100 free would have made him Penn’s 2nd-fastest performer this season behind junior Ben Feldman.
Campbell’s best 50 freestyle would have put him narrowly inside the A-final this year at conference, while his best 100 would have been in the middle of the B-final. Besides Feldman, the only other sprinter to make it back in the 100 was senior Jack Hamilton (44.81), while in the 50 junior Andrew Dai (20.36) and Hamilton advanced to the C-final (20.26).
Campbell joins Robert Melsom, Weifan Zhang, Alan Zhang, and Benjamin Ham in the Quakers’ class of 2027. Campbell is the the only pure sprinter of the group, especially when it comes to freestyle.
