Patrica Castro Ortega breaks own 200 IM Record on Night One of DII NCAA’s

After dipping under Katharina Fischer’s individual medley record  this morning touching the wall at 1:58.91 Patrica Castro Ortega lowered her record by another 3-tenths this evening winning the 200 IM at 1:58.60.  She was joined on the podium by teammate Caroline Arakelian (2:00.35) who touched second. Wingate sophomore Sofia Petrenko (2:00.37) would come up just short of the silver taking third.

Comparative splits:

  • Fischer, 2014 – 26.45/30.06/33.89/28.81 = 1:59.21
  • Castro, 2015 – 25.77/30.33/35.00/27.81 = 1:58.91
  • Castro, 2015 –  25.81/30.43/34.93/27.43 =1:58.60

Castro seemed a bit more relaxed tonight through the first 100 of the race touching a little over a tenth slower than she was this morning, allowing her to to come home roughly half a second faster her second 100 of the IM.  The swim should give the 2012 Olympian a lot of confidence moving forward especially with arguably her best race, the 200 freestyle, slated for tomorrow.
