For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
NCSA Summer Championships finalist Sarah Carrico has announced her verbal commitment to swim for Cornell University in New York beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I am so excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Cornell University to continue my academic and athletic careers! I am grateful for the unwavering support of my family, especially my parents and brothers. Thank you to all of my coaches and teammates at Excel Aquatics over the years. A special thank you to Coach Pat for giving me this incredible opportunity. Go Big Red!!”
The Tennessee native is currently a senior at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, where she has been a member of the school’s swimming and diving team all four years. In addition to competing for the Raptors, Carrico also trains year-round with Excel Aquatics, primarily specializing in free and fly.
Carrico has qualified for the TISCA (Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) State Championships every season since her freshman year, with some of her fastest performances coming during the 2025 iteration of the meet. She placed 3rd in the 500 free (4:55.97) and 4th in the 200 free (1:52.02), both of which still stand as her lifetime bests in those events. She also helped Ravenwood to a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay and a 5th-place finish in the 400 free relay.
At the 2025 Beaman Toyota Meet of Champions, Carrico turned in a series of strong performances. She won the 500 free (5:04.70) and 1650 free (17:41.99) and took 2nd in the 100 fly (58.15 – SB) and 200 fly (2:04.68). She also placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:54.52), 5th in the 50 fly (26.72 – PB), 6th in the 100 free (54.47 – SB) and 9th in the 50 free (25.12 – PB).
A month later, Carrico posted another string of lifetime best performances at the Excel Mardi Gras Meet in January. She prevailed in the 500 free (4:58.60 – SB), 1000 free (10:14.20 – PB) and 100 fly (58.09 – SB). Carrico also placed 2nd in the 100 free (53.18 – PB), 3rd in the 50 free (25.16) and 200 IM (2:09.94 – PB), 7th in the 100 breast (1:13.87 – PB) and 8th in the 50 fly (26.98).
At the 2025 NCSA Summer Championships (LCM) in July, Carrico earned a second swim in the 200 fly, placing 12th in 2:20.45 after logging a personal best time of 2:20.37 during prelims.

A Division I Mid-Major program, Cornell competes in the Ivy League, with the women’s team placing 6th out of eight teams at the 2026 Ivy League Championships a few weeks ago. Based on the results from this season’s conference championships, Carrico would have landed in the ‘C’ final in the 500 free and 200 fly, giving her a chance to score some points right from the start.
On the team itself, Carrico would have been Cornell’s 2nd-fastest 500 freestyler this season and ranked 3rd in the 200 fly and 8th in the 200 free and 100 fly, bringing added depth to the roster. With a few seniors set to graduate at the end of this season, including Cornell’s current top competitor in the 200 free and 500 free Jungmin Yoon, Carrico’s position on the rankings could shift, although that does not account for the other incoming recruits.
Joining Carrico in the pool this fall will be Kate Lucyshyn, Anna Nishnianidze, Mae Winardi, Amy Chai and Abby Lee, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
