NC State Lands Massive Verbal From Turkish World Junior Champion Nusrat Allahverdi for 2026

Turkish breaststroke talent Nusrat Allahverdi has verbally committed to North Carolina State University for the fall of 2026.

Allahverdi earned his first World Juniors Championship title this past summer in the 50 breast (LCM), clocking a lifetime best of 26.98. This was his first time swimming under the 27-second barrier in his career, having previously held a best time of 27.16 from the Turkish National Team Selection meet in May.

A month and a half prior, Allahverdi notched a personal best in the 100 breast at the European Junior Championships, winning bronze in 1:00.24. He did bring home a gold medal at those championships, winning the 50 breast in 27.24.

A year earlier, Allahverdi won his first European Junior Championships title in the 50 breast, clocking 27.60. Just two weeks before that, he represented his home country of Turkey at the European Aquatics championships. There, he finished 6th in the 50 breast, clocking 27.35.

Aside from his sprint breast expertise, Allahverdi holds best times of 2:24.36 in the 200 breast from the 2022 Turkish LCM National Team Selection meet. In March of 2024, he swam a long course best of 2:09.09 in the 200 IM.

Best Times Converted to SCY:

The NC State men finished 3rd at the 2025 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships last season.

Based on Allahverdi’s best converted times, we can predict that he would have finished 15th in the 100 breast, 46th in the 200 breast, and 57th in the 200 IM at those championships.

Turkish talent has flooded into the NCAA since the country hired Bob Bowman as a consultant 12 years ago. While the country’s junior domestic results have improved dramatically in that period, those swimmers have had mixed results in the NCAA.

Notable names include Tokyo Olympian Deniz Ertan, who spent her first season at Georgia Tech until transferring to Arizona State, where she has won a pair of Big 12 titles (200 Fly, 1650 Free). Paris Olympian Gizem Guvenec is another, who is in her 5th season with the UCLA, where last season she was the fastest 100 and 200 freestyler for the Bruins.

The upside of Allahverdi’s sprint breast and relay potential is very exciting. The biggest question mark that he posses is his lack of a 3rd event. He will expand upon his repertoire upon his arrival to the Wolfpack program, and will likely figure out that 3rd event.

Allahverdi joins Ethan Holloway, Liam Carrington, Austin Temple, and Sam Marsteiner in the Wolfpack’s 2026 recruiting class.
