Listen to the dual 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials winner to get a glimpse into the 27-year-old swimmer’s mind with Rio now less than 20 days away. Below are a few highlights from his media conversation.

On Katie Ledecky

“She is an absolute, amazing aerobic machine. I don’t think anyone can understand it.”

Goal for 100m Freestyle in Rio
Nathan Adrian:
“I’m not a guy who sets numerical goals. That’s not something that works for me really well. For me, it’s about executing the race that I’ve planned for the entire year. For example, right now I’m working on my dive into dolphin kicks and then maintaining momentum into my swim….that’s my microgoal.”

Advice for young kids’ parents
Nathan Adrian: “Allow kids to learn to love the sport. If there is anything forced, there will be no longevity.”

What Nathan has a slew of gold nedal from Nationals to world champs in Kazan!? He is the reigning champ, and his 2nd 50 is the fastest of the top 3 in the world his 1st 50 is usually pretty easy speef. Id like to see himbuild into that tirn fadter and start his charge 10 meyers off the wall insteaf of 10 meters onto the finish! The spri ts are going to be amazing, intense and super exciting!! Ngateo, McEvoy, Manadu,Irvin and then theres all the 17-18 talent from Australia and USA!

Adrian is going to need a faster final 50 to get the gold again.

He swam a great race in London. I thought his turn was superb, how fast he got his legs around.

But in Rio, he’s going to have to surpass what he did in London.

Who will end Mcevoy’s reign on terror!?!! (For the Americans anyway, the Aussies love it, and it’s for Adrian).

Doesn’t Nathan understand that we all expect him to say his goal is gold medal and WR!

Nathan is smarter than that. What’s the point of giving the competition extra motivation?
