Winter Juniors qualifier Nate Sherrard has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Texas A&M University beginning in the fall of 2027.

Sherrard is currently a senior at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, but plans to take a gap year before heading to Texas A&M. This will mark Sherrard’s second season as a member of A&M Consolidated’s varsity swimming and diving team, as he attended and swam for Chapin High School in South Carolina his freshman and sophomore years.
His move to College Station for high school coincided with his dad Duncan Sherrard joining the Aggies’ staff last season as an assistant coach. Nate’s older sister Reagan Sherrard is currently a freshman on the Aggie team.
In addition to competing for his high school team, Sherrard trains year-round with Aggie Swim Club. A versatile threat in the water, he excels at free, breast and IM but is also adept at back and fly.
Sherrard turned in a series of personal best performances at the Gulf Southern Senior Invitational in December. He placed 9th in the 50 free (21.10) and 12th in the 200 breast (2:07.58), clocking lifetime best times in both events. He also contested the 100 free (46.68) and 200 IM (1:54.03), once again posting best times in both races.
A few months later, Sherrard improved his times even further at the UIL Region VI-5A Championships. He won both the 100 free (45.52) and the 100 breast (56.58), throwing down personal best times in both races.
Sherrard enjoyed a series of top performances at the Austin Sectionals (LCM) in July. Between his prelims and finals swims, he clocked ten personal best times and two season-best times over the course of the weekend. He placed 5th in the 200 IM (2:08.39 – PB), 11th in the 100 breast (1:05.74 – PB), 21st in the 100 free (52.79 – PB), 33rd in the 100 back (1:00.85 – PB), 34th in both the 50 free (24.63 – SB) and 100 fly (58.04 – PB) and 37th in the 200 free (1:59.55).
Sherrard has made huge strides in his performances over the last few seasons. From the 2023-2024 season to the 2024-2025 season, he dropped 13 seconds in the 200 breast, eight seconds in both the 200 IM and 100 back and almost five seconds in the 200 free.

A Division I program, Texas A&M competes in the SEC against fellow powerhouses like Texas, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama. The Aggies placed 5th at the SEC Championships last season before sending nine athletes on to compete at the NCAA Championships, where the team finished 12th overall.
To earn a second swim at the 2025 SEC Championships, it took times of 19.53/42.75/1:34.99 in the 50/100/200 free, 52.98/1:56.19 in the 100/200 breast and 1:44.91 in the 200 IM, putting Sherrard outside the cutoff in each of his top events. With two more seasons to go until Sherrard joins the Aggies in the pool, he still has an opportunity to improve his times and his scoring potential before arriving at Texas A&M.

His Dad is on staff and his sister is a freshman this year – it’s a whole family affair for the Sherrard gang!
Yes not noted in the article is that his dad is an assistant coach and part of the coaching staff who cut an incoming freshman who was a junior national and us open finalist.
