Multi-Stroker Flynn Truskett Verbals to William & Mary

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Flynn Truskett, a senior at Bayard Rustin High School in Pennsylvania, has verbally committed to the women’s swimming and diving team College of William & Mary for 2023.

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at William & Mary! I want to thank my coaches, family, and friends for supporting me through this process. #rolltribe🔰”

At the 2022 PIAA 3A Girls Swimming and Diving Championships, Truskett finished 6th in the 100 fly and 9th in the 200 IM. In previous years, she also competed in the 50 free, where she finished 11th at state championships in 2021.

Truskett also competes for Upper Main Line YMCA. At the 2022 long-course YMCA Nationals, Truskett finished 13th in the 200 IM. She also competed in the bronze-winning 800 free relay, swimming the second leg and finishing in 2:09.07.

Truskett has three 2023 USA Swimming Futures cuts, in the 50 free (both SCY and LCM), 100 back (SCY), and 200 IM (LCM).

Best short-course yards times:

  • 50 free: 23.98
  • 100 back: 57.63
  • 100 fly: 56.88
  • 200 IM: 2:07.97

William & Mary is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). At the 2022 women’s CAA championships, William & Mary won its first conference title since 2017. With her best times, Truskett could’ve made the B final in the 100 back at the 2022 conference finals. She would also be within a few tenths of the B finals in the 50 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

Truskett will be joining a relatively young team–currently, a third of the entire team is composed of freshmen. Earlier in the season, coach Nate Kellogg openly called for “better execution and overall improvement” after an opening loss to UNCW.

“We have a talented freshman class,” Kellogg said after the second meet of the season. “I think they’re still in the learning phase on how to race week in and week out, and there is a learning curve for that. We’re leaning on them a lot this year, and there’s a ton of potential there.”

More recently in the season, William & Mary has both won and lost meets, winning against Loyola, but losing to Delaware and Towson, for example.

Truskett will also be facing the loss of some of William & Mary’s top point-scorers, like breaststroker Annie Tuttle, a current senior. Truskett’s arrival will add depth to the team and help cultivate strength in a number of events, depending on where needs arise.

So far, Truskett joins Kaitlyn Conover-Emmert, MaryClaire Kopfer, Clara Bodner, Sarah Dunham, Meghan Benda, Zoe Arakelian, Julia Gehrig, Julie Addison, Meghan Rourke, and Lauren Tucker for the William & Mary recruiting class of 2027.
