Missy Franklin Downs 100 Back 15-16 NAG Record

With Missy Franklin chasing American, textile, and World Records, it’s easy to forget that, being only 16, she still has USA Swimming National Age Group Records to break, which she saeems to be doing every time she hits the water these days.

The latest to go down is the women’s 100 backstroke mark, thanks to her swim of 59.18 to take her first ever National Championship last night. This bettered the previous mark held by Franklin herself at 59.75, which was set earlier this year at the Austin Grand Prix.

Franklin now holds 5 National Age Group Records (long course) in the 15-16 age group, and a total of 18 altogether. Those 18 leave her only one behind Michael Phelps’ 19 for the most of all time.

Franklin still has time to lower these records even further, and maybe break a few more, as she doesn’t turn 17 until May 10th of next year.
