River City Aquatics’ Phin Theall is headed to McKendree University to join the Bearcats for the fall of 2025.
The Cape Girardeau Central High School graduate took home a pair of 2024 MSHSAA Boys Class 1 state titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly back in November. His 50 free final time of 20.57 was just .03 slower than his prelims swim of 20.54, which stands as his best time to date in the event. His victory in the 100 fly came in a time of 48.34, which stood as his best time for only four months before swimming a 48.02 at Sectionals in Columbia, MO.
Earlier this summer, Theall swam at the USA Swimming Futures Championships (LCM) in Justin, TX, where he finished 4th overall in the 100 fly, swimming a new lifetime best in 55.45. Additionally, he swam to a season best in the 50 fly (26.07), taking 17th overall.
Theall managed to shave over 10 seconds off his 200 fly best over 14 months, beginning in January 2024, when he clocked a 1:58.48, just the second time he had broken two minutes up to that point. Almost a year to the date later, Theall dropped another 1.78 seconds to 1:56.70.
Carrying that momentum into Sectionals this past March, Theall swam two lifetime bests: 1:50.29 in prelims, following up that near six and a half second improvement with his finals performance of 1:47.87, where his current best now sits.

Theall joins a Wildcat men’s program that finished as runners-up to Drury by just 35.5 points last season at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships. Based on Theall’s best times, he would have been 10th in the 200 fly, 11th in the 100 fly, and 19th in the prelims at those championships.
McKendree adds Theall to an incoming freshman class that includes Noah Brereton, Carson Olson, Atticus Sternke, Keaton Tottle, and Brady Murdick.
