Marist Gains Commitment From Futures Qualifier Kris Flores (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kris Flores has announced his commitment to swim and study at Marist College this upcoming fall. Flores hails from Norwalk, Connecticut, where he attends Brien McMahon High School and trains year-round with the Zeus Swim Team under coach Dennis Flores.

l am truly blessed to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Marist College! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches that have supported me throughout this journey. Go Red Foxes!”

Flores, a USA Swimming National Diversity Select Camp attendee, owns Futures cuts in the 100m fly, 100 breast, 100 fly, and 50 free. He recently set a slew of personal best times at the Sunkissed Invitational, highlighted by his runner-up finish in the 100 fly (50.43). He added 4th place finishes in the 200 fly (1:55.08), 100 breast (57.93), 200 back (1:55.42), and 50 free (21.28).

Just prior to the Sunkissed Invite, Flores represented his high school at the Connecticut High School State Championships. He was a member of his team’s 2nd place 200 freestyle relay, where he contributed an opening split of 21.84. He was also the breaststroker on the medley relay, going a 26.35 to help the team to 2nd in that event as well. Individually his best finish was in the 100 fly at 7th with a time of 52.10.

Many of his best long course times were established at the ISCA Summer Blast in July. There, he dropped nearly two seconds in the 100m fly to post a 57.27 and take 2nd overall. He was also top-8 in the 50m fly with a best time of 26.35 for 6th.

Top SCY Times

  • 50 free – 21.28
  • 100 free – 47.37
  • 100 fly – 50.43
  • 100 breast – 57.93

The Red Foxes recently won the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title at the conference championship meet. Flores’ current best time in the 100 fly would have qualified for the B-final this year, putting him in a strong position to be an immediate scorer for Marist at the conference level.

Ethan McCormac won the 100 fly title for Marist with a time of 48.07. He was joined in the A-final by Kellen Fletcher and Chris Dauser, who finished 4th (48.91) and 5th (49.10), respectively. Assuming no one takes a 5th year, this group will no longer be on campus this coming fall.

Flores is joined by Joseph Cash, Wells Ely, Peter Zalewski, and Ben Turley in Marist’s incoming class.
