Lexie Gilbert Commits to University of Richmond

Alexa Gilbert of the Naval Academy Aquatic Club has committed to the University of Richmond.

Gilbert is quite versatile and her best times are about equally good across almost every event on the NCAA schedule. She confirms, however, that her focuses initially at Richmond will be in the 400 IM, 500 free, and breaststroke races.

Best times in yards:

  • 200 free – 1:57.34
  • 500 free – 5:06.47
  • 100 breast – 1:08.53
  • 200 breast – 2:26.99
  • 200 IM – 2:09.40
  • 400 IM – 4:27.85

Gilbert currently trains with the Naval Academy Swim Club in Annapolis. She says that it was a combination of athletics and academics that attracted her to Richmond.

“I’m beyond excited to join the Spider family!” Gilbert said of her future home. “I chose the University of Richmond for its amazing academics and athletics. The team and the coaching staff are phenomenal! I can’t wait to be apart of such an amazing team. ”

Gilbert’s best times would’ve made her a B-finalist at last year’s A-10 Championships in the 400 IM, which right now, thanks in part to that impressive versatility, projects to be her biggest contribution immediately, and she’s already improved her best time by a second into the early stages of her senior season.
