A handful of Texas-based athletes took to a Mexican pool this weekend, racing at the 2025 Copa Internacional.
4-time Olympic champion Leon Marchand led a formidable squad which included David Schlicht, Chase Kalisz and reigning 200m back Olympic gold medalist Hubert Kos.
22-year-old Kos is a senior on the University of Texas men’s swimming roster, while the others also train under famed coach Bob Bowman, but as pros.
Competing in a short-course meters arena, 23-year-old Marchand took on the 100m breast and 100m IM events, reaping gold in both.
The Frenchman posted a time of 58.37 in the former and 51.99 in the latter to bring home hardware.
Schlicht was runner-up in the 100m breast in 1:00.26, while Kos and Kalisz wrangled up 3rd and 4th place positions in respective efforts of 1:01.23 and 1:01.32.
As for the 100m IM, Schlicht turned in a time of 54.77 for silver and Kalisz snagged bronze in 55.17.
Kos topped the men’s 200m back podium handily in 1:53.19 to also garner gold in Mexico.
Looking ahead to the Texas season, the defending NCAA champions kick off their 2025/26 season on September 26th with the Sam Kendricks Dust Off Your Boots Classic. They will then travel to Alabama on October 10th for their first dual meet of the season.
We reported how Marchand is taking on a Michael Phelps-esque limited competition schedule, one which includes racing at just the first World Aquatics Swimming World Cup stop in Carmel, slated for October 10th-12th.

Forks up to all the former Sun-Devils!
What a great group of men. Surely their relay name was normal and had nothing to do with Grant House or his tutor
Where are you seeing a name? Meet mobile doesn’t have a name
Could you give a bit more context ?
