Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Josh Stewart has committed to swim at the University of Wyoming. He hails from Prosper, Texas, where he swims for Texas Ford Aquatics and attends Prosper High School. He will join the Pokes in the fall of 2027 as their first commit in the class.

He publicized the announcement on social media, writing:

I am beyond excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wyoming. I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity and guiding me along this journey, my parents for their endless support and sacrifices, and my teammates and friends for supporting me every step of the way. A huge thank you to my coaches, especially Coach Coley for believing in me and pushing me to reach this point, as well as Coach Dave and Coach Johnathon at Wyoming for welcoming me into the Cowboy family. GO POKES!

Stewart is a versatile swimmer who specializes in middle distance freestyle, butterfly, and IM. His two target meets of the 2024-25 season were the OK KMS Pro-Am Classic in December and the Justin Speedo Sectionals in March.

At the Pro-Am Classic, Stewart notched a best time in each of his five individual events: the 200 free, 500 free, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. His best finishes came in the 200 fly and 400 IM, where he picked up bronze medals with times of 1:53.59 and 4:03.17. He also touched fifth in the 200 IM (1:54.78), seventh in the 200 free (1:42.31), and eighth in the 500 free (4:38.58).

After an intensive winter training block, Stewart continued his momentum at the Speedo Sectionals, where he lowered his marks in the 200 fly and 400 IM. He hit the wall 22nd in the 200 fly at 1:51.23 after breaking 1:52 for the first time in prelims with 1:51.89, and finished 34th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.29. He also swam to a best time of 46.76 to take 56th overall in the 100 free. Outside of personal bests, he was 23rd in the 200 IM in 1:55.34, logged 4:40.32 for 58th in the 500 free, and secured 1:43.91 for 78th in the 200 free.

It was a blockbuster season for Stewart, as his best times entering the year were 4:41.59 in the 500 free, 1:46.05 in the 200 free, 1:57.76 in the 200 fly, 1:57.26 in the 200 IM, and 4:08.51 in the 400 IM.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 Freestyle: 1:42.31
  • 500 Freestyle: 4:38.58
  • 200 Butterfly: 1:51.23
  • 200 IM: 1:54.78
  • 400 IM: 4:02.29

The Wyoming men are led by head coach Dave Denniston, who has been at the helm of the program since 2017. The program finished fifth out of six teams at the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Stewart is poised to make an immediate impact at the conference level, as his career best times in the 200 fly and 400 IM would have made the ‘B’ final in 2025. His lifetime bests in the 200 free and 500 free would have been quick enough to make the ‘C’ final, while it took 1:52.39 to earn a second swim in the 200 IM.

According to the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Stewart would have ranked third in the 400 IM, fourth in the 200 fly, sixth in the 200 IM, seventh in the 500 free, and 10th in the 200 free.

Sophomore Andrew Ravegum led the Pokes in the IM events with clockings of 1:46.40 and 3:48.70, while senior Gavin Smith topped the charts in the 200 free and 200 fly with marks of 1:35.91 and 1:43.96. Junior Caleb Ozenne was the team’s fastest 500 freestyler with his time of 4:23.59.
